How friendly are shop assistants?

I’m curious on where the border of job requirement friendliness and real friendliness is when being served by a woman. Usually I ask how their day is going. I’ve had a girl that started telling me how she just bought a credit card and she paid for a bed with it, then there was one who started chatting about one of the drinks I bought, how she really liked them. And one who I asked about how busy it was and she started telling me how it was on Thursday night. I’ve noticed one in particular doesn’t seem that chatty to other customers. So are they just providing excellent customer service or more? And if it’s more should I ask for a number or when they’re taking a break?
