Retail Sales Assistants Jobs

New in the US…!!!?
Hi ,
I’m new in the USA from Colombia, I’m living in phoenix, az I would love some advice.
I got here 7 months ago, I took a quick dental assisting class and now I’m a dental assistant, I’ve been interviewed for some jobs, but I wonder why they don’t call me, I’ve been applying for any kind of Job, retail sale, teacher assistant, etc, but IT seems there ’s something wrong, I wouldn’t like to think people see that I’m not from the US so they don’t call me back.
I’m actually thinking about taking some classes fro cooking , is that a good idea? or cake decorator? I just love cooking !
please a need some advice!!!!!
Right now the job market is terrible all over the U.S. People are struggling to find work, in any type of job.
I don’t think that the problem is whether or not you are from the U.S. or not. There are a lot of people out there looking for work and are not getting called back.
Some thoughts that come to mind are:
1. Do you have authorization to work in the U.S. or are you looking for an employer to sponsor you for that? That could be one problem if that is the case.
2. What kind of work experience do you have other than the schooling for dental assisting? If you do not have any work experience to show an employer this could be a problem. Maybe consider working the front desk of a dental office or an entry level position to get your experience started?
3. To be a teaching assistant you would need to have some experience or certification of education training to get that. Do you have experience or certification in education? Maybe that is an issue that some prospective employers are having.
You could look at some cooking classes, but maybe until you find some kind of work you should hold off on more classes. You need to get some work experience behind you to get a job any where, concentrate on that for now.
