Registered Sales Assistants

Do you need formal qualifications to be an optical assistant?

The ad that i found to work as one at my local optometrist does not say. It just says ‘optical and sales experience advantagous’. Both full-time and part-time positions have been offered. Doing orthoptics next year at uni but no experience with optics. Had a temporary job at a school bookstore working at the register, processing customer cash, eftpos and credit card transactions, assisting customers, stock control (processing orders, processing stock transfers (using computer programs), packing orders, moving stock from warehouse to store) and delivering stock to consumers (assisting driver, not driving myself). Hopefully this is enough. Thanks

It would be better if you did have some experience or if you were a Medical Assistant because if you were a Medical Assistant you will have the training for the job. With being in the medical field, you will know about the human eye and how it works-alittle Anatonmy and Physiology and some of the tests they do for patients.I can see you working the front desk but not as an assistant. I can’t say that you will get the job because of all the experience you have. It would be better if you maybe got a job working for UPS because they pay for college tution and more and offer great benefits and it fits in with you perfectly because of you having the experience or stocking up trucks.Try getting a job at a bank because of all the custamer service background you have.
Hope things work out.
